Safe oils and moisturizers for the body that are low in salicylates and amines

I’ll share two stories about massage and acupuncture appointments where I overlooked what was being put on my body and I got really sick. We’ll cover what oils are safe for your body if you’re salicylate or amine sensitive. We’ll also cover what oils to avoid, what qualities to avoid, controversial oils (palm, olive), and other safe moisturizers that may work for your skin.

Products I use:
-Napa Valley Organic Canola Oil, Expeller Pressed:  *I get this at a healthfood store I shop at, but this is the only listing I could find online.
-Rice Bran Oil:
-Lard:  (avoid hydrogenated oils that are added to mainstream/popular lards)
-Lanolin:  Looks like they are sold out right now, but it will give you some qualities to look for when shopping around.
-8oz glass Bottle with pumps:
-4oz plastic squeeze bottles with flip top (food grade and BPA free):

Safe low-amine and low-salicylate oils (based on research or RPAH’s recommendation) – these are all safe to eat and cook with too.

  • Cottonseed
  • Sunflower
  • Safflower
  • Soy
  • Palm
  • Rice Bran Oil

Oils to avoid

  • Coconut
  • Avocado
  • Almond or Sweet Almond
  • Apricot
  • Corn
  • Grapeseed

Other low-salicylate moisturizers for the skin (may be higher in amines):

  • Shea butter
  • Cocoa butter
  • Lard and Tallow
  • Lanolin

Synthetic moisturizers –
These are low in salicylates, but are not considered natural. These are by-products of the oil refinery process, but some people do really well with them.

  • Vaseline
  • Mineral oil
  • Baby oil
